Hydrogen for sure it is quite abundant in the atmosphere and doesn’t produce greenhouse gasses. It is constantly being produced in reactions between other gasses in the atmosphere. Some people are hesitant to invest in these hydrogen fueled cars because of the chemical properties of hydrogen that make it combustible. The truth is that most types of fuels that have already been used in cars are highly flammable and the likelihood of any car exploding is minute as long as cars are driven in a safe manner and are regularly serviced by a professional. Hydrogen cars could eventually be filled up at petrol stations. While it would cost billions of dollars for service stations to change or include hydrogen fuel in their services but the potential benefits can outweigh these costs.

Electric cars take a long time to charge (around 8 hrs), which makes it difficult to make long road trips. The manner in which the electricity is produced is also an issue. This could be a sustainable option in the future when Australia has the green energy sources and the associated infrastructure to implement these environmentally friendly cars on a large scale.

One issue that needs to be addressed is the large cost of the cars for consumes. Drivers are unlikely to be able or willing to pay out large sums of money for these cars. Prices won’t come down until there is a sufficient market for this technology. So for many car industries, governments and consumers this issue will continue to sit on the backburner.

The technology for electric cars is already sufficient enough for small car trips and the cost of electric cars or to retrofit cars seems to be cheaper and is actually already available compared to hydrogen. However cars do need ages to recharge and the greenness of the transport depends on its energy source. Batteries also present a problem as there is large green battery yet. The cost for electric fuel station is in no doubt very costly as well.
The biggest advantage however of electric cars is the fact that it empower the ordinary consumers as cars can be charged at home using self-made electricity, compared to hydrogen which would be sold by large cooperation, Shell selling hydrogen instead of petrol, unless a small scale way to make hydrogen is found. Also hydrogen also requires electricity to make it which brings us back to the question why not use electricity in the first place. Hence the cleanness of hydrogen depends on its energy source.
