Vatican going green
Some good news that will lighten your day. The Vatican is installing solar panels on the roof of the Paul VI audience hall to supply the entire buildings energy requirements. Any excess energy left over will be pumped into the Vatican’s power grid to be used it other areas. Even though the state hasn’t signed the Kyoto protocol it is still trying to reduce its carbon footprint and may eventually become the first state to release no emissions. I am pleased with the progress that the Catholic Church is making and hope others follow suit.

Re: Vatican going green
that is good news indeed, but the Vatican will not truly become carbon neutral until all its imports are carbon neutral and the Vatican imports a lot.
It is very important for religious leaders to throw their weight behind sustainability and other important issues sadly this is often not done, which sometimes seems to contradict their beliefs.
How cool would it be if pollution would be declared a sin. Like the eight deadly sin. Carbon lent from now till eternity.
I'm unsure about the position of the different religions towards climate changed, would be very interesting to find out.

The Vatican recently added some more sins so now there are 14 in total and pollution is included.
The seven social sins are:
1. Bioethical' violations such as birth control
2. Morally dubious experiments such as stem cell research
3. Drug abuse
4. Polluting the environment
5. Contributing to widening divide between rich and poor
6. Excessive wealth
7. Creating poverty
The original deadly sins are:
1. Pride
2. Envy
3. Gluttony
4. Lust
5. Anger
6. Greed
7. Sloth
