Cement Creek Rally

A rally up north to try and prevent the logging of a beautiful area of forest.
It's on Sunday the 23rd of Nov, not sure of the time...

I think it's early on in the day.
Is it kosha to sort of publicise the rally on f/book? or is it all hush hush?

Ya, I completely agree.
Not sure if I can go at this point, but if I could ... I wouldn't know how to get there exactly. I'm not exactly transport savvy. Besides, being on your own is boring. And sometimes scary. I'm a bit of a freaky person for a constant companion.

We intend to march through Warburton's main street.
We're hoping for about a thousand people to attend.

In order to arrive alive you have to take the Lilydale train from Flinder's street of Richmond Stations, get off at Lilydale.
From here you can either take the Warburton bus which takes you right there, or ride your bike from the station 30 km.
I reckon having a travelling contingent is good.
should we 'VISEN represent' with the banner at the rally? possibly a good way to get more high schoolers interested, maybe even have clipboards and the petition to chase people with after the rally.

banner & petitions work for me! and I'm for busing, not riding. 30km is way to far for me to enjoy myself!!

What happened to the idea of staying at tom's?

Im planning on getting some friends together and go up the day before and camp overnight, just for some post-exam chill time. Im gonna find out campsites now if anyone's interested.

Hey everyone, Tom's said that we can camp on his property so, provided its all still ok with his folks, thats the plan. How many people are thinking of staying either/both Saturday and Sunday nights? If there's enough, do we want to do communal food? wb - alix

So the plan is for two groups to go up to Warburton. Some will go up Saturday and camp over, some will go up Sunday morning.

If you want to be part of the Saturday/camping group, there is a meeting Friday (6pm, at the Flagstaff Gardens-cnr William St & La Trobe St) that you must attend!!! If you can't you have to let someone know that you will definitely be attending. We will organise food, tents, etc. at the meeting.

If you want to go on Saturday still put your name on the forum here. You'll have to catch the 9:06 lilydale train from Flinders St, and then a bus (the 683).

I am planning to camp.

my mum said no soooooo CRAP! especially seeing as that means that nikkola cant come, and because phoebe cant come as well, no-one that we organised to come from school will want to come, cos they wont know anyone. and we'll be missing another meeting! *explodes*

yeah i can't come either, hence why nikkola is not allowed to (along with the whole jordan not going thing)

Okay... So it's looking good. I've heard tonnes of people talking about the rally in many different areas.
It just occured to me that people may think I have a large property... although it would be fine for everyone to come camp around my house and it is totally invited... pleeeeeeaase don't come with your romantic ideas of large lush areas for you to spread out... it would be my back yard near the chickens... I HOPE everyone's cool with this... otherwise we could look at the camp site for some nice river-side camping? (this is contrast, costs money)
Which ever way we go, I'm glad to show y'all around warburton/chat/chill. It's a beautiful area and I', sure you'll all love it.

I couldn't find any one either, and it was bloody cold!

um, looking at this thread tho, it looks like us and Hannah are the only ones who are allowed to camp, so I'm thinking it would be best if we all just went up on Sun. What do people think? We need to catch the 9:02 train from Flinders to be there on time...

why not, its a pitty though but hey we will be there for the rally
it might also be relativley wet.... only a problem of comfort

If you miss the train catch the next one to lilydale and then a bus up to warburton...I think it's the 638.

i dont know about the rest of u guys but its probarly easier to tell in person...
the rally was nice i dont know hoa many peoepl 500+ ??? locals, wilderness society, chris from leap(forest guy), adrian from leap( zero emissions), big dan from leap, shamous from wilderness society, one vip from the greens and who could froget Tom and crew and an oversized owl and possum.....

what did we acive ??? i m not actualy sure... i think there are just loggin in a diffrent area of the catchment so...

funny thing the loggers tried to conter demonstrate but through some quick thinking the polices was contacted and the loggers where stopped in their tracks.
